Managing and verifying identities is one of the greatest challenges of the digital age.
SICPA brings seventy years of commitment to enabling trust, into a groundbreaking, non-profit and independent initiative to build and secure digital identities.
SICPA has been unanimously approved by the Sovrin Board of Trustees to become Founding Steward of the open source, non-profit self-sovereign identity (SSI) network mandated by the Sovrin Foundation. SICPA has a long standing commitment to enabling trust and is proud to contribute its knowledge and expertise to this first public utility network serving today’s evolving and urgent needs for identification and authentication.
Managing and verifying identities is one of the greatest challenges of the digital age. The online landscape is fragmented and users create a separate identity for each online service they use. This forces service providers to invest in costly security solutions to protect user integrity. Sovrin, a global public utility governed by the Foundation’s strict constitutional Trust Framework, aims to simplify this by using a distributed ledger technology to build the missing link in the internet identity chain.
“This is applicable to countries and systems, big and small. We aim to provide a secure and independent space that links governments directly to its citizens.”
Through Sovrin, SICPA is investing in and contributing to the development of the notion of an identity for all, independent of its form – digital or physical. Working with the Sovrin network aligns with SICPA’s strategy to deliver solutions which reflect the shifting needs and uses of identity and protect privacy across the full range of digital services. Through this first self-sovereign identity network, Sovrin will enable the creation of digital identities that are secure, private, permanent and usable across the digital landscape.
As a founding partner and steward of Sovrin, SICPA is joining forces with other leading actors to contribute to identity integrity and strengthen trust around the globe. SICPA will provide hardware, technical and human resources to run one of the network’s global interconnected nodes.
The international, non-profit Sovrin Foundation is governed by a constitutional Trust Framework that ensures its independence from government or industry influence and codifies its dedication to providing self-sovereign digital identity for all. The Sovrin network is operated by independent stewards and uses the power of a hybrid distributed ledger as a fast, private and secure framework for providing every person, organization, and connected device a permanent identity with which to transact online and operate securely in everyday life.
