A multinational corporation listed on the Fortune 500, specialising in pharmaceuticals and medical technologies, was grappling with serious challenges including counterfeit products, warranty return fraud, and liability risks.

Following a comprehensive assessment of their challenges and operational context, our experts proposed tailored solutions to address their specific needs.

SICPA implemented covert security features embedded in primary packaging - such as vial and syringe labels - as well as in secondary packaging like cartons and folding boxes. Protection against counterfeiting is essential for preserving brand integrity and fostering consumer trust. To effectively safeguard their products, brands should integrate advanced security features into their strategy. These features will make it significantly harder for counterfeiters to replicate products.

Additionally, educating consumers on how to identify genuine products and understand the risks of counterfeit goods is vital, as informed consumers are less likely to be deceived by fake products.

Furthermore, the brands need to collaborate with law enforcement and regulatory bodies to combat counterfeit activities. This further strengthens these efforts by ensuring that there is a coordinated approach to tackling the issue.

And finally, ensuring transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain helps prevent counterfeit products from infiltrating the market, thereby maintaining product authenticity and consumer confidence.

Consumers play a vital role in the fight against counterfeiting. They can protect themselves by purchasing products from reputable sources such as authorised retailers and official websites.

Including consumers in the fight against counterfeit products can help them to adopt the right reflexes to protect themselves. For example, consumers can get into the habit of checking for authenticity features such as markers that indicate a product's genuineness. Consumers can also help brands by reporting suspicious products to brands or authorities.
